Beyond Haunting : Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh Fort is a 16th-century fort built in the Rajasthan state of India by Raja Bhagwant Das for his younger son Madho Singh. The fort and its precincts are well preserved and located on the border of the Sariska Reserve in the Aravali range of hills in Alwar district . The fort complex includes several temples, public chambers, marketplaces, and the royal palace. However, despite its architectural beauty and historical significance, Bhangarh Fort is more famous for being the most haunted site in India.
There are many legends and myths surrounding the reasons for the abandonment and desolation of the fort. According to one legend, a local ascetic named Guru Balu Nath cursed the fort after its shadow fell on his house, violating his injunction that no house in the vicinity should be taller than his own.
According to another legend, a black magician named Singhia fell in love with Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh and tried to use a love potion to bewitch her. However, she foiled his plan by throwing the potion onto a boulder, which rolled down and crushed him. Before he died, he cursed the fort and its inhabitants to doom.
These legends have given rise to many stories of paranormal activities and ghost sightings in the fort. Many people claim to have heard strange noises, screams, and whispers in the fort premises. Some have reported seeing apparitions, shadows, and orbs of light. Some have even claimed to have been physically harmed or possessed by evil spirits.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has put up a signboard at the entrance of the fort prohibiting visitors from entering the fort after sunset and before sunrise. The locals believe that anyone who stays in the fort at night will not return alive.
Bhangarh Fort is a fascinating place that attracts many tourists, historians, and thrill-seekers. It is a place where history and mystery meet, where beauty and horror coexist. It is a place that challenges the rational mind and stimulates the imagination. It is a place that deserves to be explored with caution and respect.
